17 – The Big Lebowski (1998)

Genre: Comedy / Crime
Writer: Ethan Coen / Joel Coen
Director: Ethan Coen / Joel Coen
Producer: Ethan Coen / Joel Coen
Main Actors: Jeff Bridges / John Goodman / Julianne Moore / Steve Buscemi / Philip Seymour Hoffman / David Huddleston / Peter Stormare / John Turturro
Plot (short): “Dude” Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.
My Comment: The Coen brothers film after the big success with “Fargo”. The Dude speaks to the entire internet generation of slackers in such a way it quickly became a cult classic. An impressive lineup of actors , great photography and just awesome dialogue makes this simple story amazing. The movie even spawned a celebration called “Lebowski Fest” in the US with free bowling, white russians and other film like things for everyone, it is also encouraged if you dont attend you stay indoors in your bathrobe drinking white russians. One of the few comedies on my list so enjoy while it lasts.
Tony the Chauffeur: So he says “My wife’s a pain in the ass. She’s always busting my friggin’ agates. My daughter’s married to a real loser bastard. And I got a rash so bad on my ass, I can’t even sit down. But you know me. I can’t complain.”
The Dude: Fuckin’ A, man. I got a rash, man.

16 – Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Genre: Horror / Mystery
Writer: Washington Irving / Kevin Yagher / Andrew Kevin Walker
Director: Tim Burton
Producer: Scott Rudin / Adam Schroeder / Francis Ford Coppola / Larry J. Franco
Main Actors: Johnny Depp / Christina Ricci / Miranda Richardson / Michael Gambon / Casper Van Dien / Christopher Walken / Christopher Lee / Jeffrey Jones
Plot (short): Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of 3 people with the culprit being the legendary apparition, the Headless Horseman.
My Comment: Sleepy Hollow is based on a novel almost 200 years old and has been told and retold in so many diffrent ways its almost uncountable. Just ontop of my head i can remember a episode of the cartoon “Scooby Doo” when i was a kid that had the Headless Horseman story. And ofcourse as in most Tim Burton movies Johnny Depp steps in as the character “Ichabod Crane” that has to face decapitation murder-investigations. An amazing line of actors, brilliant art, photography (witch it was awarded the Academy Award for) and music. Makes it one of those really nice old time mystery movies you can watch many times.
Ichabod Crane: You have moved the body?
Dr. Thomas Lancaster: I did.
Ichabod Crane: You must never move the body!
Dr. Thomas Lancaster: Why not?
Ichabod Crane: Because…

15 – Blade Runner (1982)

Genre: Action / Sci-Fi / Thriller
Writer: Hampton Fancher / David Webb Peoples / Philip K. Dick
Director: Riddley Scott
Producer: Michael Deeley
Main Actors: Harrison Ford / Rutger Hauer / Sean Young / Edward James Olmos
Plot (short): Deckard, a blade runner, has to track down and terminate 4 replicants who hijacked a ship in space and have returned to earth seeking their maker.
My Comment: This one also for some reason groundbreaking special effects sci-fi. Can you spot the trend here? With Harrison Ford just coming out from finishing “Raiders” and “Star Wars” he stepped into the role as Deckard in this fast paced sci-fi action. This one did not really make a big impact on release , thought in time it became a cult classic paving the way for the Neo-noir genre (future settings with 40s-50s looks).
Holden: Describe in single words only the good things that come into your mind about… your mother.
Leon: My mother?
Holden: Yeah.
Leon: Let me tell you about my mother.

14 – The Abyss (1989)

Genre: Action / Adventure / Sci-Fi / Thriller
Writer: James Cameron
Director: James Cameron
Producer: Gale Anne Hurd / Van Ling
Main Actors: Ed Harris / Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio / Michael Biehn / J.C. Quinn / Kimberly Scott
Plot (short): A civilian diving team are enlisted to search for a lost nuclear submarine and face danger while encountering an alien aquatic species.
My Comment: James Cameron’s most underestimated movies, its surprising how many that has not heard of this. A great underwater mystery with groundbreaking special effects by Dream Quest and Industrial Light & Magic. It might leave a bit to many unanswered questions but for some reason those are the movies i love the most i really recommend you see the directors cut of this one adds a lot to the experience.
Virgil: [regarding Lindsey Brigman] God, I hate that bitch.
Alan “Hippy” Carnes: Probably shouldn’t have married her then, huh?

V they have returned!
V – Visitor / ABC ,November
![]()
Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We’re eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they’ve given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they’ve rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica’s son, have been recruited as ‘Peace Ambassadors’ but they’re actually serving as unwitting spies. When Erica gets thrust into the resistance movement, she’ll have to balance her covert activities with her job and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler – even as he joins forces with the enemy.

13 – Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Genre: Action / Adventure
Writer: Lawrence Kasdan / George Lucas / Philip Kaufman
Director: Steven Spielberg
Producer: Frank Marshall / George Lucas / Howard G. Kazanjian
Main Actors: Harrison Ford / Karen Allen / Paul Freeman / Ronald Lacey / John Rhys-Davies / Denholm Elliot
Plot (short): Archeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the US government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis.
My Comment: Its Indiana Jones it should not NEED any comment. One of the highest grossing films ever made with 381 million dollars. Nominated for NINE Academy awards, won five of them. If you have not heard of this film you lived in a shoe box from birth
[Discussing the fate of the Ark]
Maj. Eaton: We have top men working on it now.
Indiana: Who?
Maj. Eaton: Top… men.

12 – Reservoir Dogs (1992)

Genre: Crime / Mystery / Thriller
Writer: Quentin Tarrantino / Roger Avary
Director: Quentin Tarrantino
Producer: Lawrence Bender
Main Actors: Harvey Keitel / Quentin Tarrantino / Tim Roth / Michael Madsen / Chris Penn / Steve Buscemi / Lawrence Tierney / Randy Brooks / Edward Bunkers
Plot (short): After a simple jewelery heist goes terribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.
My Comment: What can i say i admit that i think Quentin Tarrantino is a genius. I love his movies and this after Pulp Fiction is the best, the amazing dialogue i still remember today with the scenes like the Mexican standoff and the opening café scene. Many say Tarrantino’s movies are good because of the violence, sure i can buy that. Though what i think makes a Tarrantino movie is the dialogue, choice of actors and music.
